i9400 HUGE Backlight Bleeding Problem

My very warm Hello to all fellow Dell customers here :)

I'm in India and I ordered an Inspiron 9400 with the WXGA (non -Trubright) screen (1440x900).

The laptop is pretty good and fast but has a huge problem -

The backlight bleeding problem is very very annoying and ruins the whole 17" multimedia experience. The bottom of the screen throws too much light and reaches almost half the 'height' of the screen.

The saddest and most surprising part has been Dell Cutomer Care. Not only have they responded late, but they have also been unable to even grasp let alone solve the problem. The most atrocious reply I got was from one of the senior most tech guys who told me the laptop LCD make had that issue as a manufaturer standard and this was not a problem at all.

I talked with this tech support guy and he kept asking me to not call it a problem ! I told him it was a problem since it was unsatisfactory for me and not what is expected of a laptop worth more than $2500. The tech support guy tried to convince me to raise this issue as a request for upgradation to the TrueBright screen once I realised that even a replacement LCD would have the same problem.

I was totally dumbfounded ! How can a request for replacement and correction of the backlight bleeding problem be taken as a simple request for upgradation - I told him quite clearly that even if the upgrade was unaviodable I'd like Dell Support team to somehow compensate for this by giving me a heavy rebate on the TrueBright variant or free upgrade - both of which are not only viable but also graceful responses to an undisclosed issue.

Its sad to see Dell not reporting the backlight bleeding problem and then once people have purchased the laptop, they are told that the problem is standard with all 17" screens and is infact not a problem at all.

I really hope some Dell senior folks are seeing this and help me out of this -

1. I dont want a truebright screen - i want the normal screen BUT without the backlight bleeding problem. If Dell cant solve the problem by a simple replacement then its Dells responsibility to replace it free of cost with a non-problematic LCD screen - it could be truebright or whatever I dont care.

Ive paid a really heft amount for this laptop and I really hope Dell understands that this aint a cheap entry level laptop for general purpose but a powerful machine purchased with a lot of activities in mind - a good multimedia experience and LCD screen is an obvious expectation.

If this issue isnt resolved soon, I'd really believe that Ive wasted my money on a company and a laptop that werent really worth it :(

please help !

yeah, it's the same with my e1705. At first I was complaining about it but gave up because I didn't want to send it away for another 4 weeks or so. Plus, you can't really tell when I play games... so I just gave up.

edit: btw, I have a wuxga+

If it is under warranty and I assume it is- Dell will HAVE TO REPLACE IT for you. Do not give up be persistent as can be about this. I'd be mad too if I paid $ 2500 for a system with a problem. Good luck and keep us informed.

I also have an E1705 with the same problem. They did dispatch a tech to replace my screen. Which he did but the problem still exists. When asked why my $150 cheapo LCD desktop monitor doesn't do it, he told me its a different technology and all laptops will have this problem. Maybe it's inferior screens... My son-in-laws XPS laptop doesn't have this problem but he has the higher rez screen. Hmmm.... I'm confused and a bit upset my $2000 laptop has this "unfixable" problem.
