Inspiron N5110, problem with Intel Centrino 1030 wireless card.

Hello, I have recently acquired an Inspiron N5110 (Spain) laptop which comes with an Intel Centrino 1030 Wireless + Bluetooth card.

I received it 2 days ago and the wireless card is not performing as it should, when I boot up the system the adapter is disabled some times. I have to go to the device manager to enable it where it says it's disabled and code 22 is shown.

After it's enabled I can connect to a wireless network but sooner or later the connection is "lost", I don't really know how to explain it, it's connected to the network but the icon shows the yellow triangle stating "no network access" (it's a translation from Spanish, the actual English text may be different); sometimes even within the first 2 or 3 minutes. Restarting the adapter makes it work for another moment, sometimes it hangs; being restarting the only solution. When the triangle is shown, clicking it will only show the network it's connected to with the "limited access" tag and no other wireless network (in the area there are about 5, all of them are listed at the beginning).

The system is a clean 64-bit Windows 7 Home Premium, right now the only installed things are drivers (fully up to date) and the Office suite. The BIOS revision is the latest too, A03.

What could be causing this? Could it be a hardware problem? I have an older Inspiron 1520 which is also connected to the same router, it ships an Intel WiFi Link 4965AGN card and doesn't experience any problems.

Thank you for your time,

Alex.

So far the problem still exists, I continue to experience sound cuts and wi-fi disconnections. My last hope now is that those problems will perish after disabling N and switching to G wireless.

***** Issue Resolved - Wifi works at N speeds with bluetooth enabled without messing around with router settings *****

I had the same problem (dreadfully slow download speed, disconnections, etc.) with Inspiron 15R N5110 with Intel Centrino wireless-N 1030 that I received day before yesterday.  I updated the driver with the latest available (12/JAN/2012) and it resolved the issue completely.  I didn't need to reset any settings in the router, neither did I have to disable bluetooth.

Resolution:

Find the latest driver from the following link.

http://downloadcenter.intel.com/SearchResult.aspx?lang=eng&ProductFamily=Wireless+Networking&ProductLine=Intel%C2%AE+Centrino%C2%AE+Wi-Fi+Products&ProductProduct=Intel%C2%AE+Centrino%C2%AE+Wireless-N+1030

Set power saving settings for WLAN to "Highest/Maximum Performance" when laptop is on battery.  On how to set this, see details in Terry B's post.

Aaron,

The speed varies.  Usually its 130Mbps (which is also the max it goes to) but also fluctuates to 56, 65, 72, 117 etc.  I don't connect between devices using N network, so wouldn't know how speed fluctuation would affect transfer within local wireless network but for me internet connectivity is good.

Regards.

Hi, Can you tell me what is the driver you updated. After following all the steps mentioned by you and terry i am not able to resolve this issue. My problem is when some one connects to wifi from my room with another laptop it gets disconnected and i need to disable the wifi adapter and then enable it and then restart my router. Can you suggest me a better option.

It looks like you have a different issue.  I want to make sure that I understand the problem first though.  When you connect to your network the connection is alright until another person logs onto your network and then the computer drops its connection, is this correct?

Are you able to maintain a connection on other networks? Does this happen all of the time or only while connecting to your network?

I too am having the exact problem, my wireless card is a Intel 510 card but seems to be just as problematic as yours it seems. Never one for making impulse purchases I assumed that the networking problem was a bit blow out of proportion by 15z owners (the laptop I originally intended to buy), only to find what a large number of owners have found; DELL doesn't know much about about the wireless cards IT chooses to install.

Have you tried a USB wireless adapter?

- I have attempted this and the speeds I get are about 1/3 of the speed I get on my netbook and Iphone; pretty embarrassing my new i7 dell. LAN connection is exactly the same, very very slow. This made me think that it's a hardware issue much further than the card itself, but maybe device/drivers that control networking across the board.

It's come to a point I actually get excited when my internal card can be bothered to operate effectively, that's a sad state of affairs and should this persist, i'll be looking forward to my refund and purchasing a non-DELL.

And I agree with singmas, we should be compensated for our man hours, because without much effort its obvious DELL routinely makes the same mistakes, has us waste hours of both their and our time fixing them. Tbh, I'm shocked they haven't confirmed this as an issue, it's prevalent through the whole N5100 range.

Disappointing, makes me regret not buying a Lenovo.

"they should also compensate me for all the loss manhours spent trying to get the laptop connection to work!" - Maybe I should do the same thing, except in my case I simply replaced the card with a superior  Intel dual-band for about $30. My charge for the ONE hour I spent doing it- $10. Credit issued by Dell for a defective unit-$50. Simple solution instead of trolling a forum my friend, please offer a solution in a post if you're gonna complain about this product. BTW, I have 2 Dell laptops and 2 Dell desktops ranging from 1-7 years old. Never a major problem. Why? cause I took the time to learn about MY complicated products so I would be less inept if there was an issue.
