Jumpy mouse when using dock

Question

I have a Logitech Cordless Optical Trackman, which when connected to my Dell Latitude D630 laptop via the laptop's dock (Dell D/Dock?), results in a jerky cursor movement on screen. It's as if the trackball is being polled at too low a rate. When I plug the trackball straight in to one of the USB ports on my laptop, it works beautifully smoothly. I have also tried plugging other mice into some of the USB ports on my dock, and they all work smoothly as well.However, I also have a webcam plugged into the dock, and when I use the webcam, the trackball tracks smoothly! I was playing around with the idea of this being a USB power or bandwidth issue, but the trackball works fine when I'm using more USB bandwidth!In addition, this problem only occurs in Windows XP (SP3) - when I fire up Windows Vista on the laptop, the trackball works smoothly regardless of the USB port.Any ideas?

I don't know if this would help, but...I've got a Latitude D620, use a Dell docking station with a MS USB Optical mouse permanently connected. When traveling, I use the same type of mouse, rather than the touch pad. I previously had a problem with the cursor jumping or straying all over the display. I had to disable the pointer/stick in the middle of the laptop keyboard to solve it. Seemed to be a conflict with the two devices. Now on boot up, the USB mouse is sensed and the touchpad is disabled.

I believe I had to go into hardware manager to disable the pointer/stick. Good luck.
