laptop not charging

Hi if you find that your laptop is not charging (and it is an original dell charger) , chances are that the signal wire in the molded plug is broken from the signal pin. Dell may not tell you anything about this due to $$$. they suggest buying a new charger  or bringing it to a place for repair.

i did not realize that dell used a 3 contact plug untill i saw this video

the 3 contact points are power +  , power - , and signal the pin in the plug that you see.

the best way to really test this is of course with a genuine dell charger (ment for your lappy) that is known to be good and will activate the charge circuit, by plugging it in your laptop and see if the charge light comes on. if it does then you can attempt to repair the plug or buy a new charger.

if this does not work then you are looking at a jack problem. if you are up for it you can take your lappy apart and replace or repair ityourself or send it to a place to have it done

here is a link to show you and i think you might be able to send to them, if not just google " laptop power jack "  or something simaler and you will find places that will repair.
