Laptop not getting to the password screen

Hey all!

All of a sudden, my laptop won't get past the welcome screen.  I can see the windows 7 background screen but it doesn't show my login or give anywhere to put in my password.  I've tried rebooting, checked to make sure all parts are in place and tried to start in safe mode but nothing is helping.  Any ideas?  Thanks

System model?  Have you run the Dell diagnostics (F12 at powerup)?

There's your answer -- the hard drive has failed.  You'll need a new one.  There is no Inspiron 1500 -- if you post the model number someone can recommend a replacement.

You should make sure it's dry before using it, but the hard drive is still toast  -- you will need a new one.  If the system is under warranty, report the error to Dell and they'll replace the drive under warranty.  If the system it out of warranty, you'll need a new, 2.5" 9.5 or 7 mm SATA notebook drive.
