Laptop screen has black border around window

Hi,

I have an Inspiron 6000 lap top. I can use internet, Word, etc, but it won't take up the entire screen. There is a black border around the window. Has anyone ever had this happen? Any suggestions on how to correct it? Thanks in advance!
