Laptop Temperature High
I just bought dell XPS 13 (L321X), at started the fan noise is loud and laptop temperature is high( above 50 degree celcius, can went as high as 86 degree celcius ) when I just surfing internet only. Then I tried to update BIOS , the fan noise is reduced and become normal but the temperature is still higher, always between 50-60 degree celcius doing nothing, above 60 and up to 86 degree celcius when surfing internet and listening music only. I already closed most of the unimportant application and the ventilate area is free from blocking, but the temperature is still above 50 degree celcius, never fall to below 50 degree celcius. I afraid the hardware and battery of the laptop will damage easily due to high temperature inside the laptop. So, my questions are
1) Why the temperature is high(above 50, doing nothing), normally the temperature is below 50 degree celcius?
2) Is the problem of ventilation system inside laptop itself is not design well?
3) What is the solution to overcome this problem?
4) How to prevent this problem occurs again in the future?

Hi jeffnkg,
On some high end processors, the temperature ranges from 60 to 70 degree Celsius which is normal. However, I recommend you to regularly clean the air vents and always use the laptop on a flat surface

Hi jeffnkg,
Ideally the system should not get overheated just by surfing internet only. As you said the system overheating may impact other parts of the system. I appreciate for the trouble shooting steps done and good to know that you have already flashed BIOS to the latest version which should have resolved the issue. Since the computer is still overheating I recommend you to run custom test on Fan.
Restart the system and at the Dell logo keep taping the F12 key every 2 seconds. This will start the One-time boot menu. Using arrow keys select ‘Diagnostics’ and hit enter. This will run quick test without waiting for your input. To select a specific test, you can either wait till the quick test completes or press Esc. Next a list of test available will be displayed. Please select Fan and select ‘Thorough’ test mode and click Run test. Please reply with the status of the test to assist you further

Thanks Sujatha K for replying me.
I followed the steps u said as above, all the hardware funtion well and pass.
Current High Low
Processor Fan 4991 RDM 5390 RDM 3028RDM
CPU Thermistor 77celcius 84c 71c
Ambient Thermistor 48c 48c 45c
Chipset Thermistor 76c 77c 69c
Does the temperature show normal? It seems like very high temperature for a laptop. Does such the temperature will damage the hardware? If yes, then what is the solution?
