Latitude E5530 not powering up
I have an E5530 that will not switch on, when the power button is pressed it lights up so does the HDD light, the fan starts then stops then nothing, no screen no POST beep nothing.
I have tried removing the battery, swapping the charger, removing the hard drive still nothing.
I then removed them memory, no POST beep for no memory installed. Also after 5 seconds the HDD light comes on permanently and the battery and wireless light start flashing.
am I looking at motherboard replacement???

Hi PEbuilder,
Thanks for the post. Sorry to hear your latitudes no longer powering up. It’s certainly possible this is due to a motherboard failure from what you’re describing. Before replacing parts I would recommend a little more troubleshooting to make sure the problem is pinned down.
As the system appears to be receiving power try testing an external monitor if available to see if any errors are displayed.
Any internal peripheral could possibly interrupt post so as well as the parts already removed in testing, components such as the wireless cards / optical drive could also interrupt the POST process if failed.

I've got the exact same problem. External monitor doesn't receive any signal either and removing wireless card and optical drive doesn't change the process.
- With memory: turns on, fan turns, but screen (both internal and external monitor) remain completely black
- Without memory: HDD light solid on, battery and wifi light flashing.
No sounds or visual cue's whatsoever. Do I need a new motherboard? The system is 6 months old, but a refurbished item so might not have warranty.

Same problem here, although I find if I power cycle a few times it will eventually boot as normal (for the moment). Did any of you guys ever get to the bottom of this?

I have the same problem with my Dell Latitude E5540 which is my home computer. My laptop turns on, then immediately turns off before Windows gets a chance to even load. If I keep playing with it, sometimes the DELL logo will finally appear and Windows 7 OS will load. Then the laptop works normally. The computer is only 2 years +3 month old and just out of warranty. The motherboard and power switch were replaced about 7 months ago. I think I have another lemon. I had a DELL Inspiron about 3 years ago that did a similar thing. In my opinion, DELL makes nice looking laptops, has excellent service while under warranty, but the durability of their laptops seems to be VERY VERY poor.
