Low battery- WHY?

Since receiving my Inspiron 1100 at Xmas, I've unplugged it and used on the battery for a total of 1 hour. Otherwise, I use the AC. Until about 1 week ago, I've shut it down every night and while I'm at work. However, now I just leave it on 24/7. This morning when I woke up, the battery icon was blinking frantically in orange indicating a critically low battery. I took the battery out and put it back in and now its a solid green, but why did it go orange in the first place if its always plugged in?

Thanks in advance.

It could be a malfunction in the unit or charger, but more likely the power source lost power. Essentially what I'm saying is that there probably was a power outage or the plug came loose. For example, the power could have gone out during the night and came back on before you awoke. Or, a pet (if you have one) could have knocked out the cord.

An important question- once you knew it was plugged in, did the light start also blinking green? If not, there could be a malfunction somewhere.

It started blinking green once I removed the battery, put it back in, and restarted my computer. Otherwise, it did not appear as though the cord was disloged, and I'm not sure if there was a power outage during the night because I sleep with my fan on and it was still running when I woke up and also because my clocks were all alright.

Hmmm... that's very odd.

I really don't know, maybe you should give Dell a call (during off peak times)?
