Memory Question

I have a Dell Aspire 3680 that needs more ram. This is a freinds computer that I am helping. He bought the darn thing with only 1 gig with Viata!!!

Question: The spec says a max of 2 ram but I want to put 4 gig in it. Is that possible? The ram is PC2-5300 at 555mhz. What can I substitute for the 5300 and can I run 667mhz instead of 555mhz?Help is appreciated

That is an ACER Aspire.  Dell doesn't make an "Aspire" model.

If it only says 2GB then that is the maximum.  On some models you can install faster RAM but it will still only run at the BUS speed, not the speed of the faster RAM.

I have an Acer 7720 laptop but haven't tried upgrading anything.  It only has 1GB of RAM but it's not a problem as I don't have a lot of applications open at one time or use it with big spreadsheets.

On most of the Dell's what is in the specs is correct.  The only one I know for sure that is not right is the Dimension 2400.
