Mini 1018 battery life and running slow

​I've had my netbook for just 2 weeks. The battery life should be up to 8 hours. When fully charged it states 4 hours. I have done a battery calibration and a power drain but neither of these have changed the power life. ​

​It also runs very slow. Trying to use Skype seems to be a no no now. I bought this model as I know I'll be travelling in the future and have lots of friends already in Asia and wanted to use Skype. I have not downloaded any extra programmes onto the machine except Skype. ​
