Missing PORTS (COM & LPT)

​ I have an Inspiron 1000 laptop and there is no Ports ( COM & LPT). If I go to control panel then device manager the Ports (com &lpt) is gone, how do I get it back. I went into bios and reset to factory settings but nothing happened. I noticed this was missing when I explored the forum because my modem does not find a dial tone and diag on the modem tells me its working fine. Please help. ​
