Monitor via docking station

I have a docking station I use in my office that connects to a Dell 19" flat screen monitor.  Some how I have messed up the settings for the monitor when I dock.  Before the entire screen was used.  Now I have a compressed screen in the middle of the monitor that uses on three-quarters of the monitor.

This happened after I docked my laditute when it was in sleep mode.  I thought it was turned off, only to realize when I hit the power button on the docking station that the notebook had been in sleep mode.  Since that time I've had the compressed screen.

How do I fix the problem.

If you post your computer and graphics card info someone can probably point you to the exact setting. Also mention the native resolutions of your laptop LCD and external monitor, and whether you ever have them both on at the same time.

For now my simple guess is: Go to Control Panel > Display Properties > Settings and try resetting the resolution when docked (likely to 1280x1024). Then power off, undock, reboot, and reset the resolution if necessary.  That might do it.

I have a Dell Latitude with a docking station.  problem is .... Upon completion of a Powerpoint presentation I then placed my notebook back into the docking station in my office and when the desktop was brought up the screen resolution and color was such that it was very hard to see.  It was and still is a awful magenta, that will not go away.  I have disconnected all of the wires and reconnected that did nothing.

I did not change the settings while presenting my class, also the presentation has been used before and this did not happen.
