mouse pointer disappears

I have a Latitude D800 that I just finished updating the video BIOS and driver on. When it rebooted, there was a 3/8 inch tall section of the screen where the mouse pointer disappears. The section of screen where the mouse pointer disappears is about a third the way up from the bottom and covers the width of the screen.

As previously stated, I had just installed the newest video drivers AND bios. I tried reinstalling the video drivers (olld and new) and also tried removing and reinstalling the mouse pointer drivers. None of these things worked.

The mouse pointer works fine even though you cant see it. This problem started yesterday (Sept 4 2003) though I have noticed today that it will not exhibit this problem all the time.

Any help on this would be appreciated.

Thanks

Jonnypark

I just completed a fresh install of Windows 2000 on my D800 with the latest drivers/Bios and only using the Inspiron 8600 Video drivers and the problem still exists...

Dell Support -

I would like to add myself to the list of people having this problem.  I JUST received my Dell Inspiron 8500 and it CAME with this problem.  I have not installed any new drivers or flashed the BIOS yet.  I am still hoping that Dell releases an official fix to this soon.  I have tried to talk to technical support on the phone about this problem and I never get anywhere.  My new machine has pretty much sat here in its factory state awaiting an official fix, it is really quite sad.  I haven't even loaded a single program onto it yet.  Anyways any additional input is greatly appreciated.  I hope a fix, not just a work-around, is in the works.  I will post the other threads I have found on this board regarding this exact problem:

Just checked and lookie what I found, new Video drivers and Bios for the D800 dated 9/18 and 9/17 respectively, could these be the fixes? "13 Mouse pointer disappers intermittently." I'll give these mothers a try later on, hopefully this is the official fix!

They seem to be the solution, Dualhead/Twinview support is back and the mouse cursor never seems to disappear, whether you do a hibernate or standby. I can say with 99.9% certainty that this problem is now fixed.

Well, when I had only my CRT enabled, I don't use the multiple monitors, the nView Display Mode part of the GeForce4 4200 Go tab had disappeared, but once I switched it over to the LCD it reappeared. It should be the first option on the little nVidia side tab that slides out of the Advanced Options.

may be i am quite tired at the moment :-) but i really cannot find it.

this is what i try to do: open the display properties (right click on the desktop for example) ==> sebttings ==> advanced.

now, no twinview tab appers

if i open the gefoce tab, a little menu opens on the left but no twinview appears. i navigated all the menu (i suppose) but i did not find it !

i am sure that, in the past, i had a twinview tab in advanced settings

Hmm, not sure about the Twinview thing, but I know the nView option is the same as Twinview used to be. You don't have any nView option in your menu under GeForce4 4200 Go?

Ok, so after installing the latest Video Bios and Driver for my D800, this issue is back yet again, this is getting utterly ridiculous! I have the same eighth inch spot at the top of my screen where the mouse pointer disappears. Will this issue ever be fixed or must I purchase a Geforce4 Go 5650?

I've installed the latest drivers (as per above link) and it has sorted it.

thanks

the problem started when i installed the latest video bios at the time.  A03.  i was hoping it would fix a different problem...

but then my mouse pointer started to disappear.  turns out that there's a 1/8 inch line in the middle of the screen where it seems to vanish.  but only after closing the lid.  it fixes itself after adjusting the video preferences.  but breaks again after closing the lid.

then i installed the latest drivers.   Video BIOS A04, Drivers A05.   it did NOT fix the problem.  tried to re-install.  double-checked the version numbers.  tried re-installing in a particular order.  still didn't work.   i give up.

this problem continues to persist.  please Dell, keep working on a solution for us.  thanks...
