Multi-touch not functioning

Hi,

Last month, I got (through my university) a Dell Latitude. (Windows 7, Intel Core i5) and was quite happy to have a multi-touch function. However, now it doesn't work. I can use one finger just fine, but not two. Going to the Control Panel, I'm told that it's switched on. Any ideas?

Hi James,

If you can provide me the system model of your computer, I will be able to assist you in a better way. Another step you can try is to uninstall the touchpad from control panel and re-install it.

Open Programs and Features by clicking the Start button -- > Control Panel -- > Programs -- > Programs and Features -- > Select a program -- > click and Uninstall -- > Restart your computer. Once the computer restarts, you can try and update the touchpad drivers of your computer and check if the issue still persists.

Steps to download touchpad drivers:

  • Click on the link: http://dell.to/OukFUO
  • Enter the Service Tag of your system and select the operating system.
  • You will find the touchpad driver under “Input”.
  • Click on the driver depending on the touchpad of your system.
  • Click on “Download File”.
  • Select “For Single File Download via Browser”.
  • Click on “Download Now”.
  • Save the driver on your desktop.
  • Once the driver is saved on desktop, right click on it and select “Run as administrator”.
  • Install the touchpad driver by following the on screen instructions.
  • Restart your computer.

If the issue still persists, I have added you as a friend. Please accept my friend request by clicking on my name highlighted in blue and then click on “Friends” tab at the top and then click on “Request to Review” and finally click on “Accept” button.

I am sending you a private message as well. Click on “Inbox” to respond to the message and provide system’s Service Tag and contact details so I may access your system records and check for further course of action. You could also click on Start Conversation to send a private message.

Please reply with the information.

Thank you for replying. I am posting on behalf of Dell_Chinmay S.

Please try downloading and installing the touch pad drivers from the link below:

http://dell.to/X1V0w3

On the link, select the operating system installed. It would list the available downloads. Select the touch pad drivers under the 'Input' category.

Let me know if you continue to face the issue. I will be glad to assist.

Hi Gaurav,

I suppose you didn't read the personal message I sent to Chinmay? I downloaded the drivers, but (a) couldn't uninistall the old drivers (I went to Control Panel > etc. but when I clicked 'yes' in the dialogue box asking me to confirm that I wanted to uninstall the driver, nothing happened), and (b) couldn't install the new drivers - I got some error message about the file being part of a multi-disc set, and asking me to insert the final disc.

Hi James,

You can uninstall the touchpad driver of your computer from the ‘Device Manager’ as well:

  • Click on “Start” and right click on “Computer”.
  • Click on “Manage”.
  • Click on “Device Manager”.
  • Under “Mice and other pointing devices”, you will find the touchpad driver listed.
  • Right click on it and click on “uninstall”. (Check and make a note of the driver installed on your system and re-install the driver from the below steps accordingly).
  • Check the box to delete the software.
  • Restart your system

You can re-install touchpad driver for your computer from link: http://dell.to/Snqk0F

Steps to download driver:

  • Click on “Download File”.
  • Select “For Single File Download via Browser”.
  • Click on “Download Now”.
  • Save the touchpad driver on your desktop.
  • Once the touchpad driver is downloaded on the desktop, right click on it and select “Run as administrator”.
  • Follow the prompts on screen and restart your computer.

Please reply with the findings.

Hi Chinmay.

It's working now - thanks. What happened is this: I followed your instructions to uninstall the driver, to find it wasn't there. So I ignored that step and tried again to install the new driver, which again didn't work. So I went to the site and downloaded a different version of the driver (instead of the hard drive version, the Windows Update version). I'd tried this previously, but because of some error it didn't download properly, but I didn't realise this at the time so took it that the install wasn't working because it was the wrong driver. I tried again and it worked fine.

Thanks again.

Best,

James
