Need to Replace Broken Graphics Card
Hi,
I'm fairly certain my graphics card in my Studio 1558 laptop has simply died. My screen no longer displays anything despite the laptop being on. I even managed to blindly log in and hear the chime that plays upon logging in. I hooked it up to another monitor and was unable to get it to display anything. Before this, my graphics card kept crashing while playing various games or watching videos. All of this has led me to believe in the hardware's failure. So my question is, would I be able to get Dell to replace the card and fix my laptop? Would I need to pay a repair fee or would renewing the warranty be all I need?
I want to make sure Dell will fix my laptop before committing to buying a renewed warranty.
Thanks in advanced.

You can't replace just the video card - it's not a separate part. It's a chip on the mainboard - if the chip has failed, the mainboard will need to be replaced.
It'll likely cost you around $350-450 to have Dell replace the mainboard. You can likely find the board for far less and pay a shop to replace it - for a total of perhaps half to 60% of that cost.
The boards run about $180

A shop will likely charge you $75-100 in labor to replace a mainboard.

I had a feeling that was the case with video cards in laptops. Alright, looks like I'll have to look into finding a shop to do it.
Thanks for the swift reply!
