No Display on LCD

Hi,

The problem goes like this. I usually hibernate my system rather than shutting down. As usual today morning I booted my system, everythiwas fine except I was not able adjust the brightness. I "restarted" my Inspiron 6000. No Display at all in my LCD, even at the boot or while booting or after that.

These are what I did so far:

1. I plugged an external mornitor and swtched using Fn+F8. External monitor got the display. No problem at all. But LCD fails and No Display.

2. Removed and reinstalled the RAM and the battery. Still no display

3. Run the Diagnostics [in extended mode]. Reported NO issues.

4. I put my Laptop in a dark room to see any variation in the LCD. When power is up[When pressed the power button], there was some light (indicating the system has some contact with the LCD)

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I was searching the forums from the morning, still I didnt get any valid resolution. Kindly help!!!

Sounds like the backlight or inverter has failed. If under warranty, call Dell and have them replace the screen. If out of warranty, contact an LCD repair shop - repair will be far cheaper than replacement.

Thanks ejn63. I'm under warranty. if you tell me more about the problem like what is this backlit and why should it fail, it would be of great help again. Thanks a lot for you support.

Like any light bulb, the backlight can fail at any time.

Surprise!!! The system is working now. I was about to send my laptop my for service. Today morning i simply switched on my machine and it is working with perfect display. In the first run, i noticed the resolution settings have gone to very less. I increased the system resolution and found no problem.

Can anyone point out what could be the actual issue. One of my friend said it could be because of the hibernating. Is it true?

I have still warranty left. Is it suggested tht I should send it for service? Anyway I cannot demonstrate that issue. Please advice. Thanks!!!

I doubt that hibernating is the issue. Hibernating uses hard disk space to remember what to restore when rebooted. The monitor turns off when the lid is closed.
