O2Micro Memory Card Reader on Latitude with Windows 8.1
I have a Latitude E5520 and a Lattitude E5530, both have the O2Micro SD Memory Card Reader. The reader worked fine in Windows 8, but after installing the 8.1 update, the SD card reader does not work at all when inserting a memory card. There is no audible sound, no disk drive available in Windows Explorer, and in Device Manager, the O2 is not listed in "Storage Controllers" where it should be.
There are two versions of the driver that I've found online on the Dell site, but neither one solves the issue.
I found this workaround, but it's not a very good one:
- In Windows 8.1, press Start button and type fix devices, and click Find and fix problems with devices in the results list.
- Click Next and allow it to check for problems. It will come back with the option to enable the device Intel 6 Series/C200 Series Chipset Family PCI Express Root Port 6 - 1C1A or something similar
- Click Apply this fix
- When done, close the troubleshooter and open Windows Explorer, and you should see the card reader
- In Device Manager, you should see O2Micro Integrated MMC/SD controller and O2Micro Integrated MS/MSPRO controller
Now, here's the bad news - after you reboot, or even go into sleep and come back out, the card reader is gone, and you have to do these steps over again.
If anyone has a permanent fix, I would love to know what it is!

It's very frustrating that we don't have any official statement from dell or intel or anyone.
Someone please tell us how to fix this issue or at least that it is dell, intel or microsoft related?
I don't have anything in the result list in the fix devices window. I have updated all drivers, etc.

I just want to add my problem to the mix. I have a E6420 XFR and after upgrade to Win 8.1 the Intel 6 series C 200 chipset is disabled. This controls my O2 Micro integrated SD card reader. After the update my reader won't read, lol. I can go to device manager and enable it and works fine but won't survive a rebbot, just disables again. I loaded the latest chipset driver from Dells site to no avail. Anyone come up with a solution?

Hi,
I have the same issue with my own Dell Latitude E5530 as well as a client's laptop Dell Latitude E6330. Both with Win 8.1 64-bit.

The KB 2919355 update cured my ills, Thank You very much! I had read that people were having trouble with the update but I had no trouble at all. I just checked for updates and there it was. *.1 seems to be working fine for me om my E6420 XFR. I love this laptop!

So this is finally what worked for me: 1. Go to DEVICE MANAGER 2. Delete any smart cards 3. Scan for hardware changes 4. Right click and update driver on the smart card that comes up 5. Browse to the C:\DELL\Drivers\<ADMIN NOTE: Service tag removed as per privacy policy>\x86\program files\O2Micro OZ776 SCR Driver\Win8 and choose the driver in that folder

I'm still having this issue. I've installed all updates avalaible for my E5430 laptop (Windows, Intel, Dell) but nothing worked for me.
I still need to activate the chipset every time I want to access my card reader... :emotion-6:

I'd like to add my issue to the list. I'm having the same issue with my E6530. I purchased it in December and shortly after getting it set up, "upgraded" to 8.1. My card reader immediately stopped working so I contacted Dell, thinking it was a simple driver issue. After three complete changeovers between 8.0 and 8.1, (and about three months of fiddling around) they convinced me that my motherboard was bad and they needed to have the device back at Dell. I shipped it to them and about a week later received it back.
I opened the box and hit the power button only to see a message that said the system was locked and I needed to contact the administrator. Nice... I manually rebooted it a few times and finally got some type of setup screen that I did not recognize. I fiddled around and got Windows 8.0 up and running.
8.0? Really? I contacted my Dell-assigned email person and he told me to go ahead and install 8.1. Everything has been tested and should be fine. I installed 8.1 and the card reader promptly quit working. I called the 800 number on the paperwork that came with my "repaired" computer, and the guy on the other end got the reader working after a couple hours of remote assistance. I thanked him enthusiastically and we hung up the phone and computer connection. I rebooted the system just for good measure and the card reader no longer responded. Out of desperation, I ran the troubleshooter and found the issue you people have been describing on this thread.
I am really looking forward to any information about a permanent fix. I think this is a ridiculous issue and can't imagine even having it.

There is a new O2 driver posted on the Dell Downloads site for the Latitude E5530. It specifically mentions Windows 8.1, and is applicable to other Dell laptops. I just downloaded and installed, but can't say for sure if it fixed the issue yet.

Hi,
It's funny to read what you wrote about Win 8.1 on Dell laptops. I am having the same problem with O2Micro OZ77CR6 Smart Card Driver and Intel network adapters, that it seems I don't have installed. :emotion-42:
I have already installed Win 8.1 and all drivers twice. I am in the way to do the third, but first I wanted to discover what is the problem with Latitude e5530 and win 8.1 64 bit.
Have you discovered?
