old computer, forgot password

I have an old inspiron 8100 that has the double password that lets you in to the windows screen. I forgot my first password but I know my second. I have not used this in 31/2 years and would like to give it to the kids to play with with out having to pay alot to fix it by a tech.

Can someone help!!!!

Try this:

1) Restart laptop

2) At Dell splash screen (BIOS) press F8 key on keypad. This puts the computer into Safe Mode.

3) Logon as Administrator and reset password. Should probably reset both passwords.

4) Exit Safe Mode and Reboot.

Tell me if that works?

Tbeeve, if by the phrase "that lets you in to the windows screen"  you are referring to the system asking for a password before the Windows logo appears and Windows starts to load then you are referring to the BIOS password.  If so, then clearing the password will require you to contact Dell Tech Support and prove ownership before they offer you a solution.  Since laptops can be easily stolen and are portable, the clearing of any BIOS set passwords is not as easy as with a desktop system.
