PC Restore ??!!
Hello !!
Maybe there is a fix around to restore the PC Restore after a change of the mbr ???
After the istallation of Linux my mbr was changed. Now i have no change to go to the hidden partition for a clean PC Restore. Also Norton Ghost won´t let me do a restore with the "fi.gho" ??!!
Maybe there is now a fix out ..... or maybe DEll will make an option in the next Bios to get access to the hidden patition ??

but now i have solved my problem. I can´t use the utility but was cabable to extract the fi.gho from the restore partition. I have burned it on a DVD and with Norton Ghost i can make a new clean installation ..... very fast. But it won´t recover the mbr. When this mbr is broken .... nothinh will restore it to use the hidden patiotion. But that now no more problem for me .... i´m happy to have some space mor on my harddisk.

Forgot to add- once you disable dsrcheck to get the image restored, you'll need to re-enable dsrcheck (by removing the 'rem' comment) and reboot to the restore partition in order to get the MBR to mark the C: as the active partition again. Dsrcheck, in addition to the MBR checker, seems to control marking the C: as the active partition after you've booted to the PC restore partition- so if you rem out dsrcheck to do a restore and never reenable it, your MBR will be pointing to the restore partition as the active partition and you won't be able to boot your C:. Reenable dsrcheck (and reboot) and it will change your MBR to make the C: active and deactivate the restore partition.

If you have the tools to mount the restore partition volume, go into the autoexec.bat and look for a line called something like 'dsrcheck' and rem out the line. This will keep the MBR checker from running and will allow you to boot to the restore partition and have it function without the error. Use at your own risk though- the way ghost targets which partition to rewrite with the factory image is rudimentary and you don't want to accidentally overwrite the wrong partition (if you've used another tool to create a D:, E:, etc volume).
The process seems to target partition 2 (because the 30 MB utility partition is technically partition 1) so if you haven't killed the utility partition, your 'C:' should still be the target, even if you've added a D: to the same disk.
If you've killed the utility partition and added a D: to the same disk, ghost will target your D: for overwriting since it is technically partition 2 now (because C: is partition 1 since the utility partition is dead). So be careful...
