PCI Simple Communications Controller (it isn't the modem...)

I have a Latitude D610 laptop and have installed Windows XP and the following drivers so far:
  1. R85457 [D610 XP - conexant modem driver].EXE
  2. R86238 [D610 XP - intel chipset driver].EXE
  3. R87461 [D610 XP - broadcom 570x network driver].EXE
  4. R88093 [D610 XP - texas instruments cardbus driver].EXE
  5. R89495 [D610 XP - intel wireless pro (et al) drivers].EXE
  6. R89598 [D610 XP - glidepoint & stickpointer driver].EXE
  7. R92436 [D610 XP - ati mobility radeon x300 (et al) drivers].EXE
  8. R99254 [D610 XP - sigmatel audio driver].EXE

The only outstanding device is the:

PCI Simple Communications Controller, found under Other devices.

In all the forums I have read, the usual reply to this is "install the modem drivers, it is your modem". However, clearly I have installed the modem driver and the modem driver registers as:

Conexant D110 MDC V.9x Modem, found under Modems. This is also confirmed in the BIOS.

So what is it? Bluetooth? Floppy disk controller?

Anyone?

Hello,

We just installed two brand new Latitude D610 with more or less the same drivers you did, we DO have on BOTH computers the SAME problem and we cannot figure out where this comes from.

I tried to get a proper scan using the SERVICE TAG, just USELESS !!!

Hope somebody may help,

Guillesse

I am having the same problem as you guys. I have called Dell support and they
didn't even know. I don't know what it could be. I have installed everything I can
on the device driver page on Dell's website. They are supposted to get back to me on this issue.

Connexant MDC Internal Modem, 56K, V.92 Find the drivers for this system and reinstall the drivers on this one only. If it is already installed check to see if you have got a PCMICA Card installed. PCI Simple Communications could be any one of many chips sets on a modem like Unicodec sound chips check these also. Try www.driverguide.com to find drivers or www.dell.com/support

Hello All,

Welcome to the Dell Community Forum,

What service pack are you running? Install and verify that you have SP2 installed and If needed reinstall the Lat D610 R88093.exe Texas Instruments PCI6515 Flash Memory/Smart Card Driver. Hope that this helps.

Thanks,

Hi Mike,

The OS on my D610 is a SOE for a government department. It is only running SP1 and until the new SOE based on SP2 is deployed in the environment I am unable to install SP2, unfortunately.

I will re-install R88093.exe and report back if this was successfull.

Thanks, Nick.

Same here, we are unable to install SP2 because of software compatibility issues.
I have tried installed the R88093.exe and it didn't work.

I don't know if you guys have this problem as well but I also have a USB Device listed under Other devices in Device Manager.  All USB controllers are installed.  Am I missing something?

I just took delivery of 10 D810s and ran into the same problem; I plugged in the service tag on the dell site, and downloaded everything and installed (on a new XP SP2 image).  Why is this still a problem? I downloaded and installed the package mentioned in the previous post, and the problem is solved ... but should be there on Dell's site!

Update - my bad - it was there, and a newer version than the one posted above. I downloaded it and installed it.

I just received a new Latitude D610 (shipped April 1/2006) and when I looked at the driver downloads available at support.dell.com for my Service Tag, R111541 was the driver for me (not R88093). I had exactly the same issue that's described in this thread and this driver solved it for me. The generic cardbus controller converted into a "Texas Instruments PCIx515 Cardbus Controller" and the "PCI Simple Communications Controller" became "Texas Instruments PCS GemCore based SmartCard controller" in the Device Manager.

I am running Windows XP Pro SP2 which was installed by my corporation's IT department after wiping the hard drive, I assume, since the Dell Support software is nowhere to be found on my system.
