Possibly a hardware problem??

Okay, I don't even know where to begin. I bought the Dell Inspiron 6000 almost 2 years ago (August 2005). It never gave me problems until about 3 weeks ago. I was on the internet when this blue error screen (commonly referred to as "blue screen of death?"  popped up with this message:

"a problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer."

also: "Physical Memory Dump completed"

I have run the "diagnostic test" (not sure if that's right!) and everything came up as "passed".

Is this a hard drive problem?

Also, some of my programs won't work and an error message will pop up saying that I have a hardware problem.

I'm very confused and have tried everything to fix it! Is there anything that I can do, if anyone even understands my situation?

ANY HELP WILL BE GREATLY APPRECIATED :-/

Most of the time that error appears as a result of a ram or hard drive malfunction. One of them may be on its way out.RUn some diagnostics on them and just in case back up your hard drive as if its dying you won't be able to salvage any of your data.

Usually just memory adresses......The blue screen is mostly caused by hardware issues or improper drivers. Most of the times it will not give you any files and even if it does usually something hardware related is behind that.

Tell me if this helps:

KERNAL_STACK_INPAGE_PROBLEM

I was also given this message at a different time:

Invalid Setting MSDOS.SYS file

I had these kind of errors too from time to tim including a total windows crash.Reinstalled it and the problems kept coming(sometimes once a week, sometimes maybe once a month). After a HDD upgrade no bsd in more than 3 months. The old hard drive still works in an external case and still passes all tests. This doiesn't mean yours is broken but you should try a clean windows install and see if the problem persists. If it does it may be time to put a new HDD in.

The computer won't even fully turn on now..after the screen with the blue Dell bar at the top appears, it is just a black screen...

I guess this means I need to go computer shopping... :-/

I hated this computer anyways....
There is no choice on the Diagnostics screen to run the extended or short test.
