"Press F1 to Continue or F2 to enter Setup", but no errors?

For the past few weeks I've been getting a message when booting up that says "Press F1 to Continue or F2 to enter Setup". If I hit F1, my Dell Inspiron 600m boots up just fine. If I hit F2, everything in the BIOS looks fine and I can escape and it boots up fine.  My question is, why am I getting this message? I assumed it was due to a dying CMOS System Reserve Battery, unfortunately no one in the world seems to sell them, including Dell Spare Parts Department. Am I on the right track or is it possibel something else is causing the porblem?

you could try to set the bios to default.

Thanks for the suggestion, but the settings are already in the default settungs, and I have flashed the latest BIOS (ver A17).

did this happen after the bios update?

Try to remove the coin battery for say... 30 minutes and replace. The time and date will have to be adjusted. After that restart the computer.

See if this will work.

takemusuaiki,

Thanks for the suggestion, but it didn't seem to do the trick. I'm open if you have any more...

Hi - after re-formatting the hard drive and re-installing Windows XP on a Dell Inspiron 600m I discovered that the internal wireless card was intermittent.  I disabled the internal card and opted for a PCMCIA wireless card.  I too was getting this message continually after I started using the PCMCIA card.

After testing different BIOS settings, I was able to get the 600m to skip this message by changing "Set Mini PCI Status" to "Disabled"

Hope this helps!
