Problems with the Precision M4400 and the Nvidia quadro 770M

I have a problem with my Precision M4400 and Nvidia Quadro 770M. After I have installed Windows 7 64 bit, I have problems with the graphics card. I get blue screens or graphical errors. I've tried several driver versions. In the Nvidia forum had this problem even more. Here they told me that only a BIOS update of the graphics card to solve the problem. The BIOS update but I would have to refer by DELL. So my question is this problem with Dell is also known, and there is already a BIOS update to the Quadro 770M?

That's the reason why I found it weird (not to have that line into the inf file...).

Glad to see it works without modding anything. You won't regret it!

So, this fix doesn´t work for me. <ADMIN NOTE: Substitute character removed as per TOU> continues despite the installation of recommended driver :- /

I precise among WHQL drivers only the 337.88 and 340.52 works with the Quadro FX 770M. Not the previous or further ones.

Was getting same error as Vorval until I realized I was trying to install 64 bit when I needed 32 bit.

For 32bit systems, the URL to the 337.88 driver suggested by Graon is

http://www.nvidia.com/content/DriverDownload-March2009/confirmation.php?url=/Windows/337.88/337.88-notebook-win8-win7-32bit-international-whql.exe&lang=us&type=geforcem

For 64 bit systems, the URL to the 337.88 driver is http://www.nvidia.com/content/DriverDownload-March2009/confirmation.php?url=/Windows/337.88/337.88-notebook-win8-win7-64bit-international-whql.exe&lang=us&type=geforcem

I just installed 32 bit driver and it seems to be working fine.  Keeping fingers crossed.

One question for Graon though:  after successful instal, ge force experience software is telling me to update to newer driver.  Is this recommended?

No it isn't if it works well with the 337.88.

By the way, I personnaly uninstalled the GeForce Experience software I found useless.

Best regards

17days with no BS, so I got courage to write down my experience about fixing this issue. BS started to appear after replacing my hard drive (I switched to SSD) and recommended instalation of new 337.88 nvidia driver didn´t fix it. If you are in the same situation, my experience can be helpful for you.

My BS disappeared after installing this drivers from dell:

SAMSUNG_MULTI-DEVICE_A00_R276513.exe (this is new SSD firmware recommended by dell, it  can be found in M4400 drivers section (in subsection "Serial ATA")

I have installed SATA_DRVR_WIN_R264763.EXE (intel rapid storage technology) as well.

Despite the fact, that my problems was obviously connected with new SSD, the reall source of BSs was, of course, bad cooperation SSD with that FX550 graphic card ("kernel data impage error"). I m running nvidia driver 9.18.13.3788 now.

Hope this will be helpfull.

Hello,

Honestly, SSD has nothing to do with the previous BS problems of the Quadro FX.

Moreover, the only good drivers (now) for SATA on the Dell Precision M4400 are the Intel RST 11.7 on Windows 7/8. Those are the latest working on chipsets Intel PM45.

Best regards.

Hi Graon,

I don´t understand its "alchemy", but after installing two above mentioned drivers my BS deffnitely stopped (after long year full of frustration). Maybe it was caused by installing RST (its source I mentioned in my previous contribution), but fact is, it was the first thing, which was helpful for me and fixed my BS.

1) Before switching to SSD I had no BS problems

2) After switching to SSD I got at least one BS per week and my BS viewer almost everytime tags BS as graphic card problem (instalation of above recommended graphic card drivers didn´t help, I tried many times)

3) After installing new recommended SSD drivers/firmware and RST technology supposed for M4400 from Dell, I also uninstalled graphic card driver and let to my windows7 istall it again automatically (it has installed the same one as I have uninstalled - it means "9.18.13.3788 64bit".

4) BS stopped.

Hello,

Try installing 340.52 drivers (the latest supposed to be compatible with Quadro FX 770M)) and you will see a BSOD.

With the driver you installed (337.88) you are not supposed to have BSOD not matter what SSD drivers you have.

Best regards.

I can just repeat, what I wrote above:

337.88  didn´t fixed my BS, I was using it several months, but it  didn´t affect my BS in any positive way - in other words, my BS continued several month despite the fact, I have installed (and many times reinstalled) 337.88 (you can remember, we have discussed this issue several month ago in this thread).

BS doesn´t disappeare until I have installed that above mentioned SSD stuff...now it is first 17 days in row with no BS from that blessing moment...

And one more notion: I hadn ´t any BS problems with my old HDD in combination with old nvidia drivers. BS starts after buying new SSD. 337.88 driver can probably fix problems of many users, I m just saying, that in this "BS issue" is more factors than that.

You probably have another reason to have BSOD than the graphic card. Cooling may be an issue with dust inside the body and the hard drive sleeping mode can also be a reason.

If everything is ok, the only reason to have BSOD with this computer under Windows 7 is the graphic drivers. The only one who works without BSOD are :

1) Graphic drivers from Dell site (old ones < 200.xx) ;

2) nVidia GeForce 285.62 ;

3) nVidia GeForce 337.88 (whose release note mentions fixing the BSOD problem).

The 340.52 is the last one officially supports Quadro FX models but the BSOD still appears (even) after fixing the problem in the 337.88 one.

Best regards.

Hello,

It seems the current latest WHQL nvidia drivers (341.61) work perfectly with the Quadro FX 770M as the 337.88 did on Windows 7!

Eventually, everyone should be able to use the latest drivers available now with that graphic card without having anymore BSOD.

WORKAROUND. Windows 10 insists on rolling back to a problematic driver that dims my screen.  For a work around, I have to disable then enable the current driver. Initially I had to do this each time a new user logged in. Lately the fix persists for several days (now weeks) before I have to disable/enable again. I have to do this for both user accounts and administrator, although in admin, the process is simpler using device manager.

Why Windows so desperately wants to revert to a problem driver I do not understand, maybe a Windows expert could formulate a more permanent fix with this workaround.

Another fix is to hook up a separate monitor.
