problems with USB or syncing with mobile device centre?

problems with USB or syncing with mobile device centre? Dell shipped XPS1330 in UK without the fundamental driver 'Notebook System software' driver NSS.

I have been having multiple problems with an XPS1330 which seem to be down to a fundamental error during manufacturing of my machine (and perhaps many others....it seems unlikely to me that automated manufacturing could make a 'unique' error...) If you are having problems with USB or Vista not syncing with your WM6 PDA via Windows mobile device center, e.g. an error message in RapiMgr or WcesCom:  "Windows Mobile-based device failed to connect due to communication (0x8007274a) failure (see data for failure code)" or  Handheld device not recognised at all when plugged in via USB cable  I suggest you check whether NSS is installed......AT ALL!!!!

Notebook System Software is described by tech support as a FUNDAMENTAL driver which has to be put on FIRST before ANY other drivers or application software.

Dell Tech support told me to check here:(NB I am not saying change the system registry!)  click start, type regedit and LOOK in: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE,select software, select Dell Computer Corp, select Sysinfo: Regulatory ID should be 18L, and System IDHex should be 1F9(505). If its NOT (and mine isnt), then this is a major problem! ask Tech support...However, their answer?... 'system restore' which formats the hard disk, reinstalls Vista with out of date drivers, loses all your data and programs, and start again....!!!!  (or I'd suggest send the machine back)

I'd be interested to know whether my machine was unique rubbish, or whether Dell have a significant flaw in manufacturing ....  good luck

ZonkerZ (rhymes with bonkers which is what i feel about Dell!)

Did you run anything like CCleaner, PC Tune-Up, Iolo System Mechanic? Those deleted some registry entries on my system and caused the problems you're describing. I just went to Microsoft's site and downloaded the Windows Mobile Device Center thing again and it works just fine now.
