Processor temperature

Hello everyone,

Sorry if my explanation are not always clear English, but I am French.
Nobody is perfect !

Well, my trouble is that since 2 month my Laptop SmartPC 250N XP SP2 is stopping itself two or three time a day without any error message & it can be restart without any message too and run after that, 8 hours without any trouble.

Note : No message in the XP event too.

I think it could be a cooling problem, because I notice that the fan is sometime running down before the Computer stopping.

Could you say me if there is a link for a software that could do a processor temperature mesurement & or monitoring.

Already done : Anti-Virus, Anti-Spyware, Drivers Update etc...

Thanks

You can go here and download this:

This should give you your cpu temp etc.

Also blow out the vents on your machine with canned air.

Hello,

What is ACPI ?

Thanks

Advanced Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI) is an open industry specification that defines a flexible and extensible hardware interface for the system board. Software designers use this specification to integrate power management features throughout a computer system, including hardware, the operating system, and application software. This integration enables Windows to determine which applications are active and handle all of the power management resources for computer subsystems and peripherals.

ACPI enables the operating system to direct power management on a wide range of mobile, desktop and server computers, and peripherals.

ACPI is the foundation for the OnNow industry initiative that allows system manufacturers to deliver computers that start at the touch of a key on a keyboard.

ACPI design is essential to take full advantage of power management and Plug and Play in Windows. If you are not sure whether your computer is ACPI-compliant, check your manufacturer's documentation. To change power settings that take advantage of ACPI, use Power Options in Control Panel.

During Windows Setup, ACPI is installed only if all components present during Setup support power management. Some components, especially legacy components, do not support power management and can cause erratic behavior with Advanced Power Management (APM), or may prevent ACPI from being installed. Examples of such components are Industry Standard Architecture (ISA) components and an out-of-date BIOS.

That is alittle warm, but not bad. Looks like the Heaksink need to be reseated and new thermal paste applied.

Hello,

Many thanks for your help, because there is no similar forum in France.

In what way could I reset the fan drive ?

If you look at you manual you will have detailed directions on how to do that.

Or you can goto the support website and view your manual there too.

Smartstep 250N Overheating (Smartstep 250N Shutting Down Spontaneously)

Have you tried just blowing out the fan with keyboard cleaner?  That's what's been posted here before.  Spray keyboard cleaner into the grate on the right side of the laptop.  A giant puff of dust will come out the back.  Do this once a month.  It worked for me.  It was a lifesaver.  It's now been about a year since I started doing this and I haven't had any problems since.

Smartstep 250N Battery

Thought I'd also add that I found a new battery for my 250N on EBay.  Also, I found one at batterycountry.com.
