The strip at the back of the keyboard has no connections to the computer, so there shouldn't be any physical reason. Also, there should be no wires under this area. Can you send a picture? There are 3 plastic contact areas on this strip, make sure that they are secured to the main unit.

It's hard to say without knowing the exact model, but the power strip DOES indeed have a ribbon connector to the mainboard, usually on the side opposite the removal notch. Carefully guide the strip back in, starting at that side (i.e., the one with the ribbon cable. The fit is often very tight and a delicate touch is required.

Ooo Doh, sorry about that, it's an Inspiron 8600 and I will try and get a pic, but I don't know if you can tell by the picture even.  But the LCD wire to the system board is under it.  That is where most of the "lump" is residing.
