RESET TO DEFAULT FACTORY SETTINGS
Hi all, i have a dell xps 1640. i have been trying to restore to my computer from the F8 screen when the computer boots. But the issue is that when im trying to do so, a black screen appears and nothing else happnes. i have waited for almost one hour but nofing great hapens. i get the same black screen. kindly help how should i perform the same task

thanks for the quick response.
so you mean to say that i should reinstall the OS.ok that will be done. wat about the quick restore. will it be available again, once i have reinstall everything.
because i do not want to reinstall everything each time, i get an issue with the OS.
quick restore should be ok but i cannot figure out why it is not working.???

If the quick restore is gone, you'll need to do a manual restore. BACK UP the c:\dell directory to a CD or flash drive, boot from your Vista DVD, and install Vista.
Then install the Dell notebook system software, chipset driver, and all the other drivers (they're in that c:\dell directory).
Finally do all Windows critical updates.
