S Video on Inspiron 9300

I can't get the laptop to display S Video. The resolution for the second monitor is set to 800x600. I am told that S Video is 640x480. What should I do to get the computer to auto detect the TV?

I have the TV set to S Video mode and the laptop connected with a known good S Video cable.

Thanks

Have you set the laptop to out to TV?

Right click on the desktop and look for some type of  Graphics Options. It branches off and one of the new choices is Output to... Choose Notebook and TV or whatever similar option may be called.

Sorry if this does not help. That is how it works on some Dell's - I am not sure if it applies to yours or not. Just an idea.

Shortcut key to enable the external monitor-- Function Key + F8.

The setup screen that lets you select the monitor has 4 options.  3 out of 4 are grayed.  For the life of me, I can't figure out how to enable them.

To get the laptop to detect the TV you need to reboot the laptop with the TV and Laptop connected with the S-video to S-video cable. After detection you will be able to select the Advanced Display Settings for the TV.
