screen brightness issue

Well, I tried posting this over in the BIOS section, but it seems no one knows anything about it.  So, I will try my luck over here...

I recently updated my BIOS from vA02 to vA31 (via A22) and ever since I am unable to adjust the brightness of my monitor.  I have tried 1) Fn+up/dn  2) BIOS adjustments and 3) QuickSet software.  None of them affects the actual monitor brightness.  It is driving me crazy!  Another interesting thing that I have noticed is this:  If I set brightness in BIOS to, for instance, 1 notch, then boot up the computer and set the brightness by QuickSet to, say, 5 notches, the BIOS will be set at 5 notches the next time I enter setup!  So, QuickSet affects the BIOS settings, but not vice-versa.  The QuickSet brightness bar always starts at the middle every time I boot up regardless of what I set in BIOS or the previous QS setting when I shutdown before... 

Also, just so everyone knows I have already 1) installed new video drivers and tried rolling back to the previous version 2) re-flashed the BIOS with A31, then A29 3) re-installed QuickSet 4) (updated March 10) I tried A32 since it has a new video BIOS ver, but it didn't fix anything...
