Software does not recognize smartcard reader

Hi:

I currently setup standalone laptops with proprietary software that uses the on-board smartcard reader on Latitude D800/D810s.  The software works fine with the reader as a standalone.  I am using WXP SP1.

These laptops are sent to our client's field locations and connected to their LANs.  Once these laptops are connected to the LANs, the software does not recognize the smartcard reader anymore.  But, t his does not happen to all field locations.

It's been hard to get any type of info on the LAN from the  local IT staff.  We have confirmed that there are no group policies that are shutting down services (at least, that is what they tell me).  The smartcard service in running.  Because this is proprietary software, it's been hard to troubleshoot as I do not know how the program was written and what services/dlls it uses.

Does anyone have any ideas why this would happen?...and not happen as a standalone?

Thanks!

I would guess that bu "connected to the LAN" you mean joined to the domain? If this is the case the GINA is changed (You see this in that the welcome screen goes away) and your software probably gets disabled
