studio 1537 media panel problems

hi there. i am having some issues with my new studio 1537. this is my second studio. the first, a 1535 was replaced by the 1537. both studios have the same problems.

at 1535, the eject - light was on, the dvd-rw was trying to eject, without having a cd in for several times, until it came off and all media panel buttons working correct. some times, the eject -key remained on and no other key worked, or the mute key was on and the pc didn't start windows at all. motherboard and media panel was replaced, but the problem insisted. that' s why dell hellas delivered me a new 1537.

unfortunately, the same problem appeared in it. a technisian came in my place and found out that tha media panel cable wan not properly installed on motherboard. that seemed to be the problem, until next day, when the eject - light appeared again. i reinstalled vista, upgrading to ultimate and solved the problem for about 15 days, when suddenly after "waking up" from sleep mode, the eject - key light on again...

i believe that must be a software problem with media panel or a hardware motherboard problem.... i'm waitin for media panel driver or firmware fix.

any suggestions?

ps: an excuse for my english.

What about the stuck "volume up" media key which leads to a stuck maximum volume?

Today the technician is coming to the house to  replace the motherboard (it will be the 2nd

replacement) and the hinge cover (it will be the 4th replacement).  I was told by the senior

techie that if the problems still remains I will get a replacement laptop.   He said the replacement

would be a brand new 1537.  I asked for a 1555 and he said he couldn't.  I'll have to escalate to

someone in the next level.  I first reported the issue within the first 21 days and have all emails

corespondense since.  We'll see what happens.

Ladies and Gentleman, I am out of this thread!

As previously stated, 2x media bar (hinge cover) replacements and 1 x motherboard replacement, 1 x screw loosening and advice to upgrade BIOS (was already at latest level) failed to resolve the "Stuck eject button", "stuck vol up button" and "occasional non-responsive media button" issues.

Basically I have received a refund on my 1537. At the end of the day I didn't buy a new laptop that that doesn't work. Wait 10 minutes or discharge the battery is anot acceptable. I realise Dell are trying to fix it (the inherent issue), but there are too many ifs *** and maybes to wait around to find out if they ever manage to.

Just for reference I am in the UK and reported the issue 2 days after getting the laptop - as soon as it was obvious it was a reoccurring issue rather than a one of blip.

Lastly, whilst I am generally not in favour of off-shoring call centres I have to say that the contact I have had with Dells via phone and email has been superb. They did all they could and I couldn't ask more of the front line staff or the technician that replaced the mobo (it's just a shame the fixes didn't work). For this reason I will consider Dell when I get around to ordering a laptop replacement- think I'll wait to see how the 1555 fairs first, definitely won't touch another 1537.

Good luck in resolving your issues or getting a refund.

I have just run the firmware and tested it by entering sleep mode. After entering back from sleep mode, media panel worked fine. So, i think it works.

Are you all aware that there is a new BIOS update (A09) available ? I have updated my bios to that and it has cured the wait I had for the buttons to become effective . I am not sure if it is a complete cure but will report back . There seems to be several different faults , so it may not work on all the Studio range .

Hi all

This is my first post but have been watching this thread for a while. I got my studio 1537 a month or two ago and out of the box it had problems with the media bar eject button. From a cold boot the eject button would more often than not be dead for about five mins, then eject four or five times randomly after that it would work fine.

After reading this thread I saw no advatage in contacting Dell as it seemed to be a common and ongoing problem. I checked back yesterday and saw the link to the media bar firmware update, so 'in for a penny' I down loaded it and installed it! I am now 100% happy, I have booted from cold a few times and the problem looks fixed. Today I checked on Dell support for the update but in looking I found the A09 bios and an audio driver update so installed them as well, the audio driver has improved the volume greatly.

A happy Dell owner.

Hi thanks for the link to the down load page unfortunately I can't seem to down load the file. I have down loaded from the link 'acgiannopo' ( a big thank you) posted above, installed it and all looks well. However the file I downloaded was 'FW7_X0D.iso' not 'FM7_X0D.iso' is the name difference a 'typo' or is the official Dell one different? As I said it's not a problem as it has fixed the problem as far as I can tell.

Thanks to all involved... Andy

I am not sure exactly what's going on with the link, but it works for me as you can see from the screenshot. I just cropped out the address bar and title of the article.

Hi Bill

The link takes me to the page ok and I can read all about the problem and instuctions on how to run the file etc, but when I click the ISO file link all I get is a time out error I have also tried right click 'save target as' but still no luck.

It is just a "typo" problem. if you notice, when trying to download the link from Dell, the fix is called as FW7, not FM7. Try it. It is the same
