Touchpad stopped working

My touchpad suddenly stopped scrolling, and no troubleshooting thus far has fixed the problem. I've heard that others using windows XP have had similar issues, but none has been able to fix it. Does anyone know how to fix this? I don't even have an option to access the touchpad preferences in my control panel at this point. Thanks!

my first thought is to download the most recent touchpad driver from the DELL Support site. install the downloaded package & see if the issue is resolved.

what model are we dealing with here?

The touchpad is an Alps Electric, and it's using driver 5.4.102.12 from Alps as well. Not sure if this is the info you were looking for (I'm not too terribly computer savvy.) I tried to update the driver through the control panel already however, and the message said that there was no update or new driver available.

That same thing happens to me when I log in with two diferent user names at the same time on Windows XP. Does this sound similar to what is happening with your computer? So far, Dell has not given me any solution, so I can only use my computer with 1 username even though more than 1 people uses the computer.

Hey there!

Could you fix your touchpad scrolling problem? I find the same thing on XP (it used to work fine on Vista).
