Unable to log into a website; tech support says to contact Dell!

I am unable to log into a website...I can login on other computers but not on mine...I have close the firewall and antivirus programs, used different browsers, etc. but not luck. The website owners say talk to Dell! ? (Computer is out of warranty, though)

Any ideas?

Try rebooting your router, it's not unkown for it to cause weird access issues. First though, clear out any temporary internet files from your browsers cache. Also run a disc clean up. If you are using more than one browser then do this for all of them.

If you are still having a problem then look up and try "how to flush the DNS cache" and see if that make any difference.

Any number of malware/viruses can cause this problem - have you scanned recently with an up to date malware scanner?

Is it just one website, or all of them?

Is your Java up to date?

Hi Cortittt,

My name is Shomprakash and I'm a member of Dell's Social Media Team. I would be glad to assistyou with this query. Regarding it's resolution, I do have some questions regarding the nature of the error that you are receiving.

Please check the following steps on the affected machine:

1. Check if the System Date/Time are set to their correct values. More often than note, this can cause issues with the validation of a website's security certificates.

2. Try using a different web browser than the one you are currently using. eg. Google Chrome/Mozilla Firefox and see if this helps.

3. If the website was working fine on this machine previously, you may consider trying a *System Restore* on your machine to an earlier date

If any of these steps help, or if you need a further follow-up, kindly respond here. I will be glad to assist you to the best of my ability.

Regards,

Hi Cortttt,

Thanks for responding to my comment. I wanted to ask you, if you could kindly provide the exact error message that you receive when you try to visit the concerned website.

Alternatively, you can do a "PrintScreen" and then attach the image to a FlickR/Online Picture Album Elsewhere.

If you provide a pictorial link describing the issue, I can try and get this checked by some of our software experts and get back to you on it. I'll try my best to guide you to resolution on this.

It would also help to get the associated links; the ones you aren't able to browse.

Thanks again for your patience!

Kindest  Regards,

I tried a scanner and nothing showed up.....I can get into almost all the other websites I visit - probably about 20 of them no problem. I do have trouble with one other one...

I update Java every time it asks me to - which is fairly frequently.

Thanks for the reply!

That's one of the weird things... the screen usually does not come up with a error message - it simply reverts to the old screen....Sometimes it will give me a wrong password message - and then when I change the password - and the whole thing starts over again...I still can't get in. Usually I don;t get an error message at all.

Here's the link login.mailchimp.com

I cannot log into the site....

Hi Corttt,

Thanks for the response. What i would suggest next, is to confirm by checking this with a different user account on the same machine. If this is indeed an Operating System related issue, it should not recur with a new account.

To do this, you need to create a new User Account through Control Panel "User Account" management tool.

Make sure that the user type is an Administrator.

If the issue reverts there too, and the added fact that this website works fine on other machines with the same login user id/password credentials, there may be a problem with the web servers.

Let's try the steps with a different user account.

Let me know if it helps!

Thanks

Hi Cortttt,

As I understand your problem you are able to access the site, but are unable to log in. If this a forum that you are trying to log in to, have you had success in the past using that computer?

.I have close the firewall and antivirus programs,
That is never such a good idea unless you have been advised to do so by an analyst monitoring the system. I hope you remembered to enable them again!

Please tell us if you are using a Hosts file, Spywareblaster, or if you are using Spybot (that adds entries to your Hosts). Are you using an updated browser, updated Java, etc.?
