Upgrading BIOS from Memory Key
I want to upgrade my I8600 BIOS to A02 using a memory key. (There's no floppy drive, and I don't want to spend the $$$ to buy one just for the occasional BIOS update.)
I've downloaded the files to make the key bootable. I haven't yet verified that the laptop will actually boot from the key, but I'll do so before I proceed with the BIOS update.
I downloaded the I8600A02.exe file. Here's my plan from here:
Copy the .exe file to the memory key. Reboot the laptop and choose the Boot from USB option.
Take a deep breath, cross my fingers, and run the .exe file from the key.
Here's the question: Any major flaws with this plan?
Or should I stay away from updating from the key and do it from a CD?
I've seen instructions for creating the CD and so on, but never seen anything on doing the updates from a memory key.
Thanks
Bill L

suggest you make the floppy on another pc then copy the image to your bootable memory key.

In the past, I've seen that the downloaded file is used to create the floppy used to update the BIOS, as you suggest.
But this one looks to be different: The BIOS web page for the A02 says to download the file and copy it to a bootable floppy. Then it says to reboot the system with the bootable diskette in the drive and to run the program. It doesn't look like a floppy gets created.
So if I copy the file to my memory key, and boot up on the key, I should be able to do the update from there?? Does the memory key come up as drive A:?

I did the update from CD -- there's a link somewhere in this topic to a downloadable CD image for A02. Once you burn it you just redirect your boot to CD (F2 or F12, can't remember right now) and the rest happens automatically.

After I downloaded BIOS update, I just excuted from the window and my BIOS has been updated to A02 automatically. My lappy runs just fine as usual but since all these debate about a bootable floppy, I am kind of worry, am I missing something?

No your no missing anything... some people are just paranoid about updating BIOS via hard drive method. But to my way of thinking that is actually safer than using a CD. I've always done them with the hard drive method and never had a problem.
