Using Function Keys without the blue Fn button

I just purchased an Inspiron M5030 and am dismayed to find that I need to press the blue Fn key in the bottom left of my keyboard in order to utilize my function keys (F1-F12).  Is there anyway to turn this off so I can just use the F1-F12 keys without the extra stroke?  It causes a lot of extra work for me.... and I do not use the media/CD or whatever the red buttons are for.

Fingers Crossed.

uncross your fingers because here's your solution...

restart your computer

press F2 to go to bios and the dell logo appears

then on on of the tabs there is an option named "FUNCTION KEY BEHAVIOUR" , go to it and press enter and change it accordingly to your needs there will be complete description of it.

just check the menus once to locate the options, and DO NOT change any other settings unless you know the effect of the setting fully.

then save and exit.

I have done the same because i used my phone to surf the internet connected via blue tooth and many times i end up pressing F2 key accidentally which is the wireless on/off switch and ultimately get disconnected off the net, so i too changed it the way you now want.

do let me know if your problem is solvd

Hello!

I don't have an Inspiron M5040, but I have a XPS One 2710 and I used a script to re-map the F8-F12 keys to the FN+(F8-F12) instead and it works pretty well. I used AutoHotKey (www.autohotkey.com) to do so. Here's the compiled script which works well in my computer at least.

Hope this helps.
