Windows 7 OS Fresh Install Issues!

A family member purchased a Dell Inspiron N5030 laptop with Windows 7 64 bit a year ago, but did not get a warranty. It has worked great but I was forced to reformat 10+ times due to corruption and drivers being disabled from mp3 players. I reformatted it again recently and system, memory and other error messages would come up at startup and in use. I was also not aware of the purpose for the Dell Data Backup. I assumed it meant backup my document, music, video files which I already have a portable hard-drive for. I was able to use the Dell Data Backup but when I purchased and received my new hard-drive it did not install properly. It appeared to, but then when I'd shut down, turn on or restart I got a BIOS window saying windows 7 failed to install properly. I retried this 3 times, still not working!

I contacted dell and was able to get them to send me a backup windows 7 install disc. I received it and went in circles for 10 minutes before it identified the disc. It seemed to install properly but when I restarted I got a new BIOS window. It shows there are 2 windows 7 operating systems on that hard drive! The one that is corrupted and the new one. But here is the other issue. On the new freshly reinstalled version, from the disc I got from dell, there are no programs or software that originally came with the purchase and my internet will not connect. Says it cannot detect the hardware. I went to device managed and both the wifi and ethernet are not installed. I cannot get the thing online to see if it can fix itself. I went to the dell drivers site, download a driver/driver update for my specific laptop model n5030 but there is still no change.

I just need someone to tell me this. Is there a possible chance of saving my laptop or should I not bother and buy a new one???

Hi subject1157,

Welcome to the community.

It seems that you have not reinstalled the Windows 7 after formatting the hard drive correctly thus it is showing the windows.old folder on the computer.

This is how you can do clean reinstallation of Windows 7:
