Words (sometimes images) are cut off, are blurry, or are overlapping with 8600
Hi, I am new to the boards, but have browsed them extensively in search for the answer to this question. I decided to register and ask it myself, as I could not seem to find a thread that addressed this problem, or that I could tell of. (I am not the most computer-literate person when it comes to the technicalities.) ANYWAY! My situation is this...In some windows, sometimes part of the words are cut off, or they are overlapping. For example, if anyone has AOL, the headlines are cut off right through half of the words, sometimes even making it so I can't click on the link because it is nowhere to be found! This problem does not only occur with AOL. When I first got my Dell, and was going through all of the "registering" type stuff before I can actually get busy, some of the words or paragraphs were cut off or overlapping one another, and made it so I couldn't read the whole question/statement the computer was posing to me for the registration process. It seems as if it doesn't just randomly do this, but just in certain windows or on certain webpages it will do this. (I.E. it ALWAYS is like this on the AOL welcome page, so it doesn't change from one day to the next) My question is...Do I need to change a setting on my computer to fix this problem? I have tried all I could think of in Control Panel settings, but nothing seemed to work. The appearance of my display might have changed, but the same words were still cut off or overlapping. If anyone has the same problem, or just anyone who knows how and where to direct me to get this problem fixed, I would be greatly appreciative. Thanks

Before I go onto the question, just a heads-up with a few forum tips.... don't post in such a big font, it makes it terribly annoying to read... before you actually post there is a font selector above where you are typing, use it. Also, when posting with a problem it is preferable that you post all of you system specs. A good idea is to put them into your sig so that you don't have to type them out all the time... similar to what I have done. Other than that, Welcome to the boards!
Now onto the problem, try changing the DPI settings. It is my guess that you have the DPI set to 120, which makes icons, fonts and everything bigger and easier to read...... but often results in cutoff windows and fonts. The solution is to change the DPI back to 96, which does make everything smaller (you will get used to it), but it also fixes the problem and everything looks much crisper and clearer. You do this by:
Right-click the desktop -> Properties -> "Settings" tab -> "Advanced" button -> under the "General" tab you should have the display DPI setting. Change this from "large size (120dpi)" to "normal size (96dpi)".
Hopefully that should resolve your issue.
