XPS 15 l502x freezes during gameplay

Hi, ive been having this problem for a while now and it is very annoying. During gameplay my computer freezes, sometimes I can ctrl-alt-del and end the game but sometimes the computer goes completely unresponsive and i have to hold down the power button. At first i thought it might just be a problem with call of duty black ops but it has happened in some other games now too, even old games like warcraft 3. What is wrong with my laptop? Is it just drivers or is there actually something wrong with my laptop? Has anyone else had this problem?

Cheers

Hey,

Been having the same problem, game freezes randomly. Then have to ctrl + alt + del to get out. But can't kill the process after. Have noticed an error message sometimes that the Nvidia driver has crashed and recovered or something like that. However, what is strange is that a lot of games work just fine. Even, GTA IV and Crysis 2 that crashed in the video's here l502xcrash.blogspot.com  worked fine on my system, but other games like Deus Ex: Human Revolution, 40K Warhammer and strangely even Half-Life 2 tend to freeze up.

It fixes about 90% of the freezes, it still occures. And it will still make that sound trough your speakers when you load websites sometimes. I can recommend it but dont think it really is fixed

They replaced my MB last week. It seems that the games are working fine, but I lost audio. I tried everything, like drivers, upgrading  and downgrading bios, etc...

Finally called Dell, and they said that the MB has the audio chip screwed.

I havent played much, because without sound, whats the point.

My I502x is doing it as well.  It doesn't matter if it's integrated graphics or the Nvidia graphics, it still hangs when I play WoW.  It also hangs when I watch DVD's.  It only started a little over a month ago.

maybe your motherboard have issue too.

or bcz of overheating.

it's happend to you only when you play WoW ? what about other games?

and about the Dvd's, try to open your media player once with the integrated graphics and once with nvidia, if it's freeze in both of the cards it's very odd, try to run diagnostic in the laptop startup (F12 at the statup and then Diagnostic).

It's not overheating, as that's the first thing I checked.  I've got RealTempGT running and monitoring both the CPU and GPU, and it never reaches warning temp with a good 24 degree margin at top load.  Normal operating temp is around 64C and as high as 84C on the CPU and GPU, and it will hang when the temp is as low as 71C.  I get the following Windows event log message: "A problem with your video hardware caused Windows to stop working correctly."  The only way to recover is to do a hard reboot by holding down the power button.

it's bad to hear that.

so now u'll ask them to replace it again?

now it's seems like endless problem :(

p.s.: you said after they replace your motherboard this: "It fixes about 90% of the freezes, it still occures. And it will still make that sound trough your speakers when you load websites sometimes. I can recommend it but dont think it really is fixed".

i don't have this problem with the sound anymore after they replace it.
maybe your new motherboard have issue from the beginning and it's in this 2 month it become worst and worst until now?
