9volt vs 14volt battery

I have an old Inspiron 1100 that does not work and old an Inspiron 1000 that needs a new battery.

The batteries look like they fit back and forth but the voltage is different. Will it hurt my 1000 Series Laptop to put a 9.6V battery in it? The current battery in the 1000 Series says 14.8V.

You have it backwards. Both use a 14.8 volt Lithium Ion battery, but the I1000 can use a 9.6 volt Nickel-Metal Hydride unit. You might be able to use the 14.8 V I1100 battery in the I1000. Best to try to determine the model # of the Lithium batterys used in each to see if they are the same. They might be. If the 14.8 volt fits in the I1000, it's probably OK.
