C Dock NIC Problems
I've got a Latitude C540/C640 machine that has a C Port II dock model # PRX at my office and it works great.
I just purchased another dock, same model, for my home office. Everything on the dock works except the LAN connection. "Media Disconnected" is what it keeps telling me. I know the cable is live because if I undock and hardwire this machine to that cable, it gets signal and works. But if I plug that same cable into the dock and dock the machine, no connection.
I've check the BIOS and it is dock enabled (of course, it works fine in my office), I've checked the system profile and it shows as docked when docked and undocked when undocked.
I even installed the newest drivers with no change.
Any suggestions?
Thanks.
mike

Mike,
Thank you for using the Dell Community Forum.
Unfortunately, it shoulds like there might be a problem with the network card in your home Port Replicator. The only thing that I can suggest is that you try reinstalling the Port Replicator. This could cause problems with the work Port Replicator, but should not.
Are you getting any lights on the network port on the back of the Port Replicator?

Yep...it lights up and blinks just like I would expect a signal light to.
Someone suggested removing the dock profile and resinstalling it. I reposted this question over here:

Mike,
I called it reinstalling the Port Replicator, but what you actually have to do is delete the docked profile, so you have gotten the same suggestion twice, and it is a good step before proceding to Technical Support.

Ok...I removed the profile and redocked and no change. Removed it from the dock, reinstalled the driver package (R39818), restarted, shut down, put in dock, started up...no change. "Media Disconnected".
While still sitting in the dock (right now as a matter of fact), I pull the ethernet from the port replicator, plug it into the ethernet jack on the side of the laptop and boom..instant connection.
Any other ideas?

I've seen this problem also. Another thing I was advised to check was the power supply for the dock. You may want to swap with the working dock to test. It thru me because everything worked thru the port replicator except the NIC card - then I noticed my user had knocked the plug out of the back of the dock.
Go figure.
