cannot load video driver

I have just purchased a latitude d610 and i am cuurently trying to load the video driver onto the machine. The hardrive has ben wiped and xp loaded. I have the bar code number of the machine but the previous owner does not have the original start up disk. how can i establish what type of graphics device is installed?

I believe there are different types of video cards installed.

I have tried your recommendations
the first option shows (default monitor)

the 2nd option does not list any display drivers but under other devices it list a Video adapter (VGA compatible).

I have tried loading the X300 driver but it falls over halfway through and warns me that i should load a standard driver for VGA ?

I will have a go at drivers.com.

Thankyou

Anymore help would be much appreciated.

Cheers

Dave

you have two routes:

1. Short but not complete: right click on your desktop. In pop-up ,click on properties. On next pop-up, click on settings tab. The next screen will show about midway down .... Display:... Here you will see your monitor and video card info.

2. Click on START. click on CONTROL PANEL.  Click on PERFORMANCE & MAINTINANCE. Click on SYSTEM. Click on HARDWARE.  Click on DEVICE MANAGER.  Click on DISPLAY ADAPTER.

click on any display adapter listed and it will show you the drivers that are loaded for it. You can click on driver update to install new driver.

**** IF you don't have new drivers****

Download from Dell download. if by chance you have a non dell card installed, try DRIVERGUIDE.com. They have the most complete driver database on the web

I hope this helps.
