Hi XPS.15,

What is the BSOD error or the bugcheckcode? Does the system stop working or does it turn off automatically when in use? What application are you using when the bluescreens occur on the system?

Update the BIOS - http://dell.to/1qEcoXH

Reinstall the chipset and video drivers from the same site above or from the vendor site - http://intel.ly/1qEcrCW for Intel and http://bit.ly/1SnsnX0for Nvidia driver.

If the issue is unresolved, then run the stress test on the system - http://dell.to/1Lj1alh

Keep us updated.

Hi Rishi,

Thank you for your response.

First of all, it is my understanding that the crashes have nothing to do with overheating.

The main problem

I get blue screens (with all the possible error codes...) regardless of the application I use. I already updated all the drivers many times, including the last BIOS which was released in April and reinstalled windows twice.

The issue with stress tests is, that sometimes the test passes without any errors, sometimes the machine crashes during the test (BSOD) and sometimes I get strange error codes, like: "Video Card - NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960M - cannot run", or "Mass Storage Controller - Standard NVM Express Controller - Failed, PCI Express Status Test - WPE01-EBY" - usually after a restart the test passes without any errors.

However, with the SupportAssist tool (by PC Doctor) you mentioned, I discovered that some of the crashes related to file named: IgfxHK.exe, while information about rest of the crashes is not available (minidump files are not created by the OS for some reason).

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Hi XPS. 15,

Thank you for the update.

Well, since you have updated BIOS, reinstalled the drivers and reinstalled Windows, I suppose you have tried all possible steps required.

Now, based on your description, I suppose the video card is failing and hence you are encountering bluescreens on the system. The motherboard would be required to be replaced on the machine.

Restart the system and press f12 key on startup - choose diagnostics. Let it run the diags and if you encounter any errors - make a note of the complete error and report the same to us.

If the system is under warranty, then contact us via Twitter - @dellcarespro for faster communication or write me a private conversation with the service tag and your contact details. If there is no warranty, then we can help with a paid service call if required.

Keep us updated.

Hi Rishi,

The diagnostic tool (launched from the BIOS menu) doesn't find any errors (it never did).

I already talked with local representative of Dell, and he said that they will take the computer to their lab in a day or two.

However, since there are dozens (if not hundreds) of similar complaints on the internet re XPS 9550 and blue screens, I really hope that I just got a defective unit, otherwise Dell will not be able to solve the problem with my machine...it's so frustrating.

I will keep you posted.

Thanks.

Hi Rishi,

I first approached Dell about this issue (my laptop being completely unusable) in February 2016.

As of today, three months after that, Dell has failed to provide me the warranty service I paid extra for, for three months now and has left me without the laptop I need for work for more than a month now (Dell took it to its labs in April)!

Who will compensate me for that? Is there anyone at Dell who is in charge of customer service?

Thanks.

you have to remove the heatsink and replace the original thermalpaste to better one..  mine temperature decreased atleast 10 degrees after replaced thermalpaste..  but the heat management of dell is the major problem, which is the fan won't rev up untill cpu temperature goes up to really high and the fan will rev up step by step, and that will cause fan rev up delays alot, easily hit 80-90 degrees for long time period..  and this problem maybe could not be able fix until dell update to change under new bios..

Hi,

I've got exactly the same problem with xps 9550.

You can see the result of a stability test with aida64.

After overheating, the processor frequency decrease from ~3,095,5 Mhz  to ~1,395.6Mhz.

Any issue ?

If repast is needed, Dell warranty service can fix it ?
