DOOMIII Benchmarks Thread
Simply put, this thread is for posting DOOMIII screenshots with the FPS counter (either fraps or the console fps counter) to determine how well Dell laptops handle DOOMIII.
Please post your machine specs, including video driver version, what quality level you have selected, and what resolution you're playing at. Of course, any other comments and the screenshot or just the average FPS number as well.

Well doing a timedemo demo1 after doing CTRL - ALT - ~ to get to the console I get an average of about 37.6fps
640x480 Medium Quality
Inspiron 8600
1.4Ghz Centrino
768MB RAM
WUXGA
50GB 7200RPM Toshiba drive
Radeon 9600 Pro Turbo Omega 2.5.30
Watching it it's very smooth. Almost think its doing better than my desktop at the same settings :o I'll have to benchmark that later.
I'm getting ready to update the drivers to the Omega 2.5.58 as while playing the game I had the game just up and quit when I was "changing levels"
Edit: 41.7 FPS with Omega 2.5.58

I find it hard to believe that only one person has benchmarked DOOMIII on a dell laptop...

Posted this 2 days ago, here I go again.
I have an Inspiron 9100 with 2.8 ghz P4, I gb of ram, and the 64mb flavor of the mobility 9700:
43.5 fps 800x600 MED noAA/noAF
34 fps 800x600 MED noAA/8xAF
25.7 fps 800x600 MED 2xAA/8xAF
40 fps 800x600 HIGH noAA/noAF
28.5 fps 1024x768 MED noAA/noAF
22 fps 1280x800 MED noAA/noAF
33 fps 1280x800 MED noAA/noAF (shadows off)
For each of the above I ran demo1 3 times and took average of last 2 runs. This is with the cat 4.9 betas. I have the 9700 overclocked to 513/304.

I can't get the the cat 4.9 drivers to install. It says it can't detect my hardware. I have an ATI Mobility 9700 with 128 mb.

You need to modify ATI drivers first. They are not set up for mobility cards.
1. Download 4.9 betas from here if you have not done so:
http://www.ati.com/support/infobase/4547.html
2. Extract files from 4.9 driver file into a directory. The driver is an executable but the files can be extracted. If you have winzip you can right click on the file, go to "winzip", and then "open with winzip". With other zip programs this should be an option as well. The executables first step is uncompressing to a folder so you can do this and then cancel installation. DO NOT TRY TO INSTALL DRIVERS AT THIS POINT.
3. Download the dh mobility mod tool:
http://www.driverheaven.net/patje/
4. Run the mod tool choosing mobilty 9700 and pointing it to the directory where the drivers are at.
5. Unistall old ATI drivers and old ATI control panel through "add or remove programs".
6. Install 4.9 betas by going to the 4.9 betas folder and running setup.exe.
Many people have done this with no problems. I have been using this mod tool for a long time with ati cat drivers and my notebooks with no issues.

i have a Dell Inspiron 8600:
PM-1700, 512MB RAM, 80 Gig HD, 64MB Geforce 4200 Go
i benchmarked doom3 at 800x600, medium settings, with shadows turned off, no AA, vsync off at 35.4FPS using timedemo demo1
man was i really p!ssed when i first installed doom3 with the nVidia 61.77 drivers. i know it doesn't 100% support the mobile nVidia GPU but i installed it anyway using the modified inf's from www.laptopvideo2go.com where i expected better performance using the latest drivers. Boy was i wrong!! the FMV sequence (showing the id logo at startup) was choppy at best, and the doom3 main menu screen slowed down to a dead crawl! i found myself re-installing outdated Dell drivers for my geforce 4200 go and the game worked fine.

Hey flipcody,
I tried downloading the mobility mod tool and keep getting an error saying that it is not a valid win32 application. Either the file has been corrupted or someone has hacked his server.
Any alternate locations to get this file? Do you have a copy I could use?
Thanks and regards,
Tim
