Erratic working touchpad with dead zone in middle

My touchpad erratically works.  I also have a dead zone in the middle of the touchpad.  Any ideas?

Have you installed the latest driver updates for your touchpad?? Make sure that you remove your old ones first before installing the new ones.

You can get the updated drivers from the Download tab up above.

I have the exact same problem -- dead zone right in the middle.  I turned the palm check down to its minimum and that helped, but I think that is only a makeshift fix.  My gut tells me that it is a hardware issue, but if anyone else has any suggestions, I would be happy to try them.

The problem with my Inspiron 5100 touch pad is similar. It's really hard/frustrating to maneurer around the desktop. Very seldom it goes where I want it go without a lot of effort. I have tried updating the drivers, however that did not work. I'm starting to think it's a hardware issue, maybe a poorly made touch pad. I'm ready to pull my hair out????!!!! Any help with this issue would be very much appreciated.

I had the same problem with my 5100.  I also turned down the palm feature and sensitivity and can only use the corners of the touch pad.  I called Tech Service at Dell and they determined it is a hardware problem and told me to return the laptop under warranty so the touchpad can be replaced.  I unfortunately haven't done that yet and was wondering, since I need the computer, if the touch pad can be replaced by me.  My warranty is almost up anyway, so voiding it won't be a problem.
