What do the LEDs on the battery itself show?  Does the battery hold a charge?

There doesn't seem to be any LEDs on the battery itself. The battery doesn't hold a charge. In fact, the BIOS says that there isn't any battery and the PowerMeter also says that there isn't a battery.

I have a similar problem but with mine the battery light will continually flash orange 3 times then green once. The battery will charge slowly for a period of time ussually till the battery is between 30 and 60% then the the block will stop charging and the green indicator light on it will stop working. When this happens sometime the block will be fine if I just unplug it from the wall and plug it back in. Most times though the  light will go green for aproximately 30 seconds and I will sometimes get a clicking sound then the block light will go off completely and my battery wont charge.

I think I have to replace the cord and block but the continual 3 orange flashes to 1 green flash worries me that there might be something more going on.

I am having the same problem. The battery had quit charging, but I just left it in and used the AC power. Then the lights start! I have replace the battery and it charges and holds a charge, but the 3rd light from the left flashes amber constantly, don't know if I am going to fry my laptop. I hope someone has an answer or some help!

Hey! I've got the same thing going on with my inspiron 6000. the battery indicator flashes orange constantly...so to get rid of this i took out the battery and just use the adaptor. I've ordered a new battery from Dell, hopefully this will sort the problem out.

The battery capacity gradually went down to a full charge = 2 mins run time...a joke i know!! indicators on the battery didnt show any signs of life...and power manag. said no battery installed even though it was.

I used to have my laptop plugged in 24/7 with battery in, im guessing that helped to kill the battery...in total, the battery was useful for about 14 months..

I have a new battery and it is charging fine. So I left it in, but by morning I had a solid amber light, 3rd from the left. I know it shouldn't be amber, but what is wrong????? I am afraid to leave the battery in because of the light. It works just fine on the adapter.

I finally replaced the battery on Saturday. It was immediately recognized by the BIOS, began to charge (it's at 100% now) and the flashing yellow LED turned solid green. My replacement battery came from a company in the Amazon marketplace and cost $70.

According to the inspiron 6000 manual, if the light is solid orange/amber, it means the battery charge is critically low...which is wierd if its been charging all the time!

If the battery works fine and the only think annoying you is the light, just cover it with a piece of tape...!
