Hard Disk Partition.

I have the XPS M1530 and when i received it the hard drive was not partitioned. I would like to partition the hard drive.. I do have experience in installing and creating partitions with XP .. but im not sure how it works with VISTA.. I hope some one can help me reinstall VISTA and partition the hard drive. Would be great if i can find a step by step procedure

It's done with the disc manager, same as XP.  The drive IS partitioned from the factory - there are four partition, which is the maximum number allowed, so you will need to remove one of them (sacrificing the quick restore is the easiest) before you add more.

what i did is use the dell media center cd to partition, and then installed the vista disk, and started the installion...been awhile, but i believe that is how i did it...if you got a owners manual, it should be in their.

Take a look at www.ITCertForum.com

Ive already laid out re-installation notes in step-by-step format etc which you'll find useful...

Check through the M1730 thread, since many have asked about re-installing, with and without RAID, and so on - so I had to put the details in a step by step form.

If its not basic enough still, create yourself a new thread, and you'll get prompt replies on the entire process as you go through it etc ;)

I've pointed forum members in the direction of you videos on a number of occasions Ifti.

Nice one - and thank you for taking the time to do them!

But I don't see/can't find the specific OS re-installation instructions/"notes" to which you refer above, on the main site?

Are there perhaps other forum sections, which are only viewable once/after you register?

Ha!

With all due respect mate... even if I could (see below)... I'm not about to trawl through the 470 posts in that thread, just to find the one in which you've explained how to do it :smileysurprised:

I can no longer view the thread anyway, without first signing up to the forums!

"Hey there!

It appears that you've exceeded the maximum number of posts you can view, but wait, there's a simple solution. To unlock the forum and continue viewing messages, all you need to do is sign up for a free account
."

And I'm not about to do that, just for the sake of viewing/searching a single thread... primarily because I don't actually require OS re-installation help myself

I asked where it was, for the benefit of anybody else reading this thread, who does need instructions/want to view the post in question.

But another reason I'm not signing up, is because I personally don't agree with having to sign up, just because you've chosen to present such a strict limitation on the number of views visitors can make.

I respect you have every right to do so of course, and I have no problem with that.

I just don't agree with it myself ;)

As long as you install Media Direct first, you shouldn't have any problems ;)
