Well, I came here with a similar question, couldn't find anything else on the topic ... I could get a Memory Stick Pro Duo with adapter to show up as a drive, if I held it in against the contacts pretty firmly, but I would never consider actually using it that way.  It doesn't seat properly - so if I release the pressure, it pops back out enough that it breaks the connection.

I guess I'll try a few things now that I'm back home, maybe it's defective.  Any thoughts would be appreciated.

hey,

i got same issue, memory stick duo adapter, i try to plug it in , but it doesnt appear to sit there,
.the 5in1 reader supports MS pro, and manual says that stick duo adaptop is should be inserted into standard size ms pro slot.

i found that if u dont press the adaptor all the way, if u stop pushing when it is almost in, it stays in like its supposed to, and then u press on it and it pops out like it should, idk if its the right way to do it, i dont think so, but thats just what i found..

Sooooooo....I am not the only one with this problem!!!  I also have to hold my memory sticks in the whole time or it breaks the connection.  I called tech support about it and they said to see if letting go after a few seconds would do the trick but I tried that several times earlier tonight and it does NOT work.  It still pops out and the connection is lost.

As many photographs as I take my finger gets numb after awhile!  This must be a defect in the reader or something?  I just received my computer and this, coupled with Vista, along with the small keyboard set too far back is making me regret my purchase.  How easily can the card reader be replaced/fixed, etc.  Anyone know??????   Thanks!!!

Hey :) Well, since I posted my message, about 8 month ago or so, I figured it out lol. Seems to be a common thing with brand new comps, all you have to do is shove the card in as hard as you can, and it will go in like its supposed to. It may produce a cracking noise first time, but don't worry. I guess the slot is not properly aligned or something like that right off of the assembly line, but this should do the trick and it will work fine thereonafter. Yeh, the keybord is a bit too high for me too, but I got used to it. I had an HP dv5000, that was a beautiful comp, i wish it had a better video, then I would have never switched it for 6400. But I guess you get used to it. Sorry about the Vista :)

Thank you so much for the reply and suggestion!  I was very nervous but I shoved in the memory stick and it did make a cracking noise but now it seems to work fine and not pop back out.  How strange. I just feel that for as much as these things cost they should work properly right out of the box!!  :smileyhappy:  I still have a bit of software to install that was shipped separately and then hopefully I will be smooth sailing.  I also really like HP but they didn't offer the specs I needed with a 15.4" screen.  Thanks again!!

Which adapter do you use to put the memory stick into the reader?

My reader used to work but I formatted everything and reloaded it because I had a really bad virus. It would have nothing to do with mechanical failure. I think it might be because I am missing a driver but I downloaded the operating system from the disk and my drivers from the other disk. Any suggestions or advice?
