Inspiron 8600
Hi,
I have been looking for the laptop, which fits me best, for the last couple of weaks. First I thought I'm going to buy a Inspiron 5150, then I figured, that the processor would not be the right choice for me, then I thought, I'm going to buy the Inspiron 8500. I never really thought about buying the Inspiron 8600, because it seemed to me to be to expensive. but now i figured out, that if I buy it with a 1.4Ghz processor, it becomes way faster, and afordable.
Does anybody have a similar system to the following?
Inspiron 8600
Pentium M 1.4Ghz
512MB DDR Ram
Geforce 5650(128MB DDR)
If yes, could you please post your benchmark results, and if you have any other informations about that system, and if you had any trouble with it.
Some days ago, I read an article which compared the Geforce 5650(128MB DDR) with the Radeon 9600(128MB DDR) laptop versions. http://www.anandtech.com/mobile/showdoc.html?i=1866&p=10
The Geforce scored terrible in all benchmarks, compared to the Radeon. Does anybody have different informations about that, probably differnt benchmark results, probably with a newer Detonator version?
- When is Dell going to come out with the Radeon 9600 for the Inspiron 8600 in the USA?
- Can I update the Geforce to a Radeon in the current Inspiron 8600 system, how much would that cost?
Thanks guys...

Dell has been telling people "between November 10th and November 20th"

An update is possible if Dell makes it available, cost unknown

I had that exact configuration before returning it and opting to get a desktop instead. Don't think that I returned it because the system was bad; I returned it because I didn't desperately need a laptop and decided that a desktop would be more economically effecient.
That setup gets a 3dmark01 score of rougly 9250-9500. I believe it gets a 3dmark03 score of roughly 2500 (not 100% sure, but it is in this area). Simply put, if you don't need the computer now and can wait to get the 9600, do so. It will probably cost an additional 100 dollars or so. That would be my guess.

I'm going to use the game for Internet, a little C++, basic Office but I also want to be able to play the latest games. Battery life is not really important to me, I'm looking for the fastest stabel system, for a price up to 1700$.
