Latitude D830 Powered USB
On the back of this machine is a USB Port that is labled USB with Power.
It seems that this is a general USB port with a small slot above it...
What is the purpose of the slot above?
Does this require some special cable with 2 connections on one side, one that is USB and another that is some sort of power connection ?
Is there a brand that I can reference?

Yes, it takes a new cable.. Question is.. I'm not sure what one....
I bought a powered USB cable, 5 volt, however it does not fit the connection on the back, it looks like this This But mine is a 5 volt version. The connector on the cable I bought is too big. The connector on the back of the dell is just too small.

I use the "powered USB" as a standard USB port with no problem.
The slot above the powered USB is not an e-sata connection It has only 4 pins.

I have also noticed this port and heard that it can supply 5, 12, or 24V output but no one will confirm.
I can not find a cable to suit.
Suggestions???

A little googling...
http://www.poweredusb.org/fcislim.html
The port on the latitude appears to be one of these, I tried looking on the manufacturer's web site for compatible products, but found very little.

I do believe that, that is the connection. I think it will take a bit more digging to find a cable that will use the USB and the powersource.
Thanks for the info.

Dell's description of port
"That third port which is the Powered USB port is just one, it's not separate. If you'll look at it, it appears to be 2 but that is a ONE whole D/bay port. It is used to connect D/bay devices into your computer, like for example an external hard drive or floppy drive. A powered usb port or the D/bay port is not the same as the regular USB port."
for information on D/Bay devices see Google link http://www.google.com/products?client=opera&rls=en&q=dell+D/bay+port&sourceid=opera&ie=UTF-8&oe=utf-8&um=1
or DELL's http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/brand.aspx?category_id=2999&brandid=56&c=us&l=en&s=dhs&cs=19
